Many people ignore system updates because they seem unnecessary and like a chore. Unfortunately, this is precisely how malicious software is able to exploit systems and wreak havoc. By keeping your Chromebook updated, you will be more protected against malware. Here are the steps to check your current Chrome OS version and update it (if required).

How to update A Chromebook:

  1. Click on the Clock (bottom-right corner).

  2. Click the “Settings” button.

  3. Click “About Chrome OS” (bottom-left corner of the settings screen).

  4. Click “Check for Updates.”

  5. Your Chromebook will check for and automatically download an update if available. This may take a few minutes or a bit longer depending on your internet connection and size of the update.

  6. After it finishes downloading, save any of your work and click on the “Restart to Update” notification (bottom-right corner).

  7. Your device will restart and be updated to the latest version. Congratulations!
